Diabetes is often missed because the early symptoms can be very subtle. In fact, 1 in 3 people with Type 2 diabetes don’t know they have it. It’s very important to pick this disease up early and best if you can catch it before it happens when you have what is called “metabolic syndrome” (pre-diabetes). Once you have diabetes you have already increased your risk of heart disease, kidney problems and loss of vision. The symptoms of metabolic syndrome are even more subtle but it is often associated with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, polycystic ovarian syndrome and increasing girth around your abdomen.
If you are at an increased risk for diabetes, the three most important things you can do are: eat a low glycemic diet (foods that don’t spike your blood sugar), stay active, and take a high quality supplement.
