Exercise Tip #4: What you do all day long is more important than what you do for 30 minutes each day! Now, please understand, I’m not against a regular 30 minute workout. If you can fit this into your schedule and commit to it, that’s a great step towards better health. However, recent studies show that you can undo all the benefits of this exercise, if you spend the other 23.5 hours mostly sitting and sleeping. What’s even more important than exercising 30 minutes a day, is committing to staying active throughout the rest of the day. This can be challenging when you work at a desk job. What I tell my clients is to learn to take hourly “stretch” breaks. Not only will this small change improve your health, your ability to focus on your work will increase and you’ll get more done in less time.
