One thing I often hear from clients is how they will choose to not eat or eat very little throughout the day, when they know they have a big event or special meal happening later on that day. I know this is common over Christmas as people prepare for the big turkey dinner. I refer to this as the “Sumo wrestler” diet. Sumo wrestlers intentionally eat most of the calories later in the day because this is the best way to build up the big fat stores around their abdomen that characterize their ‘sport’. While it can be challenging over Christmas, try to eat more earlier in the day and try to avoid eating within 2 hours of bedtime.
