The busyness of the Christmas season may have you choose to get less sleep. Not a good idea! Did you know that when you don’t get a good night’s rest, your appetite hormones get out of balance and this makes you want to eat more. What this means is that when you don’t get enough sleep, no matter how strong your willpower, you WILL eat more because your hormones will demand it. Lack of sleep also makes you more likely to make unhealthy choices. Sleep deprivation turns on the part of your brain that is associated with addictive behaviour and turns off the “reasoning” part of our brain.
